June 5, 2018
Ep 002 Blog Post
Chinae Alexander is a Texan-turned-New Yorker who is absolutely killing it as an entrepreneur, lifestyle personality, writer, speaker, and wellness expert-- she's truly a badass. Her honesty and optimism makes her feel like your tough-love BFF that you can always trust to tell you like it is, and that's exactly what she does in today's episode. We talk all about the growing pains (and freedom) involved in finding and OWNING your truth, and how you may be limiting your potential without even realizing. There are SO many nuggets of wisdom and realness in this episode-- I know you're going to love it!

Today we have the honor of hearing from former Texan turned New Yorker, Chinae Alexander, who is an entrepreneur, lifestyle personality, writer, speaker, and wellness expert based in Brooklyn, New York. Her message is to empower women to be better through positive thinking, active change, self-love, with a lot of laughter and even some curse words along the way…

Chinae moved to NYC in 2007 with big dreams to become “the next Anna Wintour”, and actually discovered that she wasn’t interested in that world. She learned that “when things don’t pan out for you, it can guide you to where you’re supposed to go” (4:00)

After a few years working for a luxury furniture company, her boss fired her, telling her “you’re an entrepreneur, you’re not supposed to work here anymore… you’ve always been an entrepreneur… go forth and success”, so she was without a job, but realized that her life was full of possibilities. After a brainstorm session, she decided to start an event planning company and it was immediately a success because of her hard work, passion, and strong connections (8:00)

All the while, her Instagram continued to grow organically without much effort. “When you focus on doing something because you are just passionate about doing it and you like doing it, that’s when growth, and inspiration, and success happens”  (11:10)

During her early years in New York, Chinae experienced some less-than-ideal (read: crazy) living situations, but those are a huge reason for why she is so grateful for where she is now. (14:00)

Although fitness is a central part of her life now, it hasn’t always been that day. It all started with a bet with her friend, and eventually turned into a 70-pound weight loss along with an appreciate for taking care of her body (22:10)

After experiencing some extremes, she has found balance and can say that ‘fitness is not everything; What we eat is not everything. It’s an important part of my life, but it’s a small part of my life” (26:00)

Her advice for people who want to own their truth is “it’s about really cultivating the things that you are good at and focusing on those things… and being more forgiving to yourself when you are what everyone else’s expectation is… I think that we all need to do checks on ourselves– ‘am I doing this because someone expects me to do this, or am I doing this because I want to do this?’” (31:55)

“I think we live out of our fear, rather than out of our joy a lot, and so it’s like ‘what things bring you joy?’. Step into them, push into them, and when things don’t, step away. I think it’s pretty simple” (34:15)

Chinae isn’t afraid to talk about the hard stuff: politics, womanhood, human rights, etc. “My thing is this: isn’t our problem with our world these days that we just unfollow, block, mute people that we don’t agree with?… so instead of doing that, how do we engage with each other?… If we can coexist in the world together, and focus on the things that we do have in common or we do appreciate about each other, that is growth” (35:30)

She shares so much wisdom about how to accept what the universe has in store for you and also what isn’t meant to be. This section is a MUST listen for everyone. (40:00)

Finally, we finish up with the #GrindAndBeGrateful question (46:15)
